Bring Back Our Bridge
Efforts are underway to rebuild the Swinging Bridge of Palenville.
Many families have fond memories of the Swinging Bridge and its vital role in the Palenville community.
The People of Palenville built and maintained a path across Kaaterskill Creek for over 100 years. Four separate times, a bridge was built. The most recent Swinging Bridge lasted 82 years and was swept away during the 2011 floods from Hurricane Irene. Generations of residents and visitors have shared their stories and we have gathered these to be used in the efforts to reconstruct this important pathway and symbol of Palenville.

What will you put on your brick?
Swinging Bridge Memory Brick - Remember your family with memories of Palenville
Buy a personalized engraved paving brick to celebrate Palenville memories. The bricks will be used in a design that preserves the memory of the Swinging Bridge by a walking path or public memorial. More info about the design will be announced as we evaluate some proposed locations in 2020.
If you buy an engraved brick, you'll be able to preserve a special memory that will be built into a public pathway that leads to the site of the Swinging Bridge. Maybe you want to honor a former resident. Maybe you want to honor a business that used to be in Palenville. Maybe you are a member of one of the early families that lived here. There are so many ways to honor our past and treasure our unique home at the base of Kaaterskill Clove.
