Palenville is coming together for the Hidden Gallery Walk, a free 2-day art event which celebrates the town’s historic role as the place where American Art began. On Sept. 28th and 29th, the events will be open from noon to 5 pm each day. The weekend's activities will involve 41 artists representing a variety of fields.
The photographic exhibition "Remnants" by Joan Lemler will be featured in the Palenville Fire Hall at 719 Rt. 32A in Palenville. Lemler has captured images of stillness and beauty from abandoned locations in the Catskills. The Fire Hall will also be showing 1-2 pieces from a number of local Palenville artists.
There will be multiple artist studios open to the public including Palenville's newest art-related design business, Nervous System, located at 3292 Rt. 23A, Palenville (at the traffic light). Artists, Jessica Rosenkrantz and Jesse Louis-Rosenberg, pioneered the application of new technologies such as 3D printing and webGL to make home products inspired by nature's patterns. Hidden Gallery Walk artist studio hosts include Ward Fleming, Nicole Lemelin and Terrance DePietro, Dan Burkholder and the Turning Mill.
As the area's scenic gateway into the Catskills, Palenville was an inspiration to the Hudson River School of painters and continues to attract artists, writers, musicians and others using various forms of artistic expression.
The community service group, Palenville The Hamlet, sponsors the event which features open artist studios, exhibitions and live music. A map of all locations is available at Circle W and given out at the corner of Rt. 23A and Rt. 32A the day of the event.
