Call for Artists
Deadline: EXTENDED to May 8
The Hidden Gallery Walk of Palenville invites artists to submit work for the 3rd annual community event held in the idyllic hamlet of Palenville, New York, located at the base of the Catskill Mountains. This summer art event celebrates the town’s historic role as the place where American Art began. The Hidden Gallery Walk brings together traditional and contemporary art and invites local, regional, national and international artists to submit work for consideration.
This 2-day event will feature “pop-up” art galleries in unusual locations around the hamlet including a scenic barn, a former speakeasy, the local library, a Catskill dancehall and others.
As the area's Scenic Gateway into the Catskills, Palenville was an inspiration to the Hudson River School of painters and continues to attract artists, writers, musicians and others using various forms of artistic expression.
Eligibility: Open to all artists age 18 and over working in any medium (including drawing, painting, printing, photography, video, digital art, outdoor sculpture, etc.). Viewing equipment (monitor, DVD) must be provided for accepted video submissions. Selected work must be framed and ready to hang (if applicable).
"Water" Exhibition Opportunity
In addition to the general call for artists, there is a separate call for art dealing with the subject of Water. Palenville is the "Village of Falling Waters" as mentioned in the story of Rip Van Winkle. Special consideration will be given to artwork and projects that investigate this theme.
Each artist must submit by emailing the following items to firstname.lastname@example.org .
1) Name, Address, Phone Number, Email, Medium, Website (if available)
2) 5 jpg images
Your submission images should be smaller than 1 MB each. A good rule of thumb is to set the image resolution to 72 ppi and keep the long dimension of the image under 1024 pixels. Files should be titled as follows: firstName_lastName _ImageTitle.jpg
3) an artist statement
4) a list of titles and the size of the finished piece (frame size, for example)
Artists will be notified of their status via e-mail.
Selection Criteria: Artists will be selected based on skill, technique, originality and appropriate fit for the unusual exhibition spaces. Submissions should be cohesive and reflect a discernible creative sensibility. There will be a number of opportunities for solo exhibitions and also some group shows. If your work is being considered for a solo show, more jpgs may be requested.
Fees: Submission is free, however the artist will be responsible for the delivery and return of the selected work.
Publicity: Entry into this exhibition constitutes artist’s permission to reproduce work for publicity purposes, both in print and digital form.
Liability and Sales: The Hidden Gallery Walk will observe every care and precaution, but cannot be responsible for loss or damage of accepted artworks. Accepted artists must contract with the Hidden Gallery Walk agreeing to exhibition terms including, but not limited to, installation schedule and liability waiver. The Event Director reserves the right to reject work not accurately represented by the images submitted, not properly framed, or arrives unsuitable for hanging. Artists are responsible for shipping or delivery. Detailed instructions will be provided after notification. Participating artists shall receive 80% of sales of any art sold from the event.
